    Letter from Experience Outdoors:

I am Jennifer's business partner, and handle most of the video production and editing for our company, while Jennifer concentrates primarily on web development. Since I will be the primary user of the CalDigit VR, she asked me to respond to you.

I have been a professional editor for the last 20 years, and have used a number of different editing systems and hardware during that period. Most of my time was spent doing a broad variety of projects for the auto industry, but I have also edited documentary and feature films, and television commercials. During my career, I have had a lot of experience (both good and bad) with large-capacity data storage, ranging from early SCSI devices to FireWire and eSATA storage.

My initial impressions of the CalDigit VR are extremely positive. The packaging was well designed, the unit is attractive and well made, and initial installation was a snap!

One of the reasons that we are so excited about having the VR is it's flexibility. Some of our projects can require on-location editing in addition to our normal studio work, so the ability to use the same storage device with both desktop and laptop machines over a variety of interfaces makes it a great choice for us. It should really help streamline our workflow.

Protecting our data is also very important to us, so we see the ability to easily configure the VR as a RAID-1 device as a huge advantage over the RAID-0 units we have used in the past. It only takes one drive failure (and permanent loss of valuable data) to underscore the importance of data protection and integrity, and like many, we learned that lesson the hard way. The CalDigit VR will allow me to sleep better, knowing our data is safe!

The fact that the drives are removable and that different amounts of storage are available for the VR just makes it that much better. I'm sure we will be adding some more high-capacity drives to our new VR soon. As a matter of fact, I predict that this CalDigit VR will soon be joined by others here at EO!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to win this great device!
